UCL Fantasy Quarterfinals 2nd Leg: Tips, Captain, Picks & Team

ucl fantasy quarterfinals md 14

Replays of Fantasy Champions League Quarterfinals start soon, so it’s time to prepare our UCL Fantasy squads for Matchday 14.

Points differences in mini-leagues and in overall ranking are very tight, and the Champions League Quarterfinals might predetermine the success of your squad. The deeper we go into the tournament the harder it will be to differentiate your UCL Fantasy team from squads of your rivals.

Let’s look at our UCL Fantasy MD14 Tips for the 2nd leg of the quarterfinals, where we discuss strategy, best picks, captain, odds, team selection and more.

1. UCL Fantasy Quarterfinals 2nd Leg Tips & Strategy

a) Use your free transfers wisely

Before the 2nd of the Champions League Quarterfinals, we have three transfers available (you cannot carry forward any of them, so use all of them), and we think you should use them to:

  1. Get rid of suspended and injured players
  2. Transfer out players, whose teams have little chance of progressing to the semifinals – based on the semifinals probabilities, you should consider getting rid of some of your Dortmund, Villa, and Real Madrid players. However, we think you should still keep faith in some of your Real Madrid players – especially attackers, as Real Madrid will go for it, that is their only option
  3. Bringing in the best captaincy options (if you do not own them)
  4. Bring in defenders who have a high chance of a clean sheet according to our Champions League Clean Sheets odds table
  5. Bring in players that are available again (Marquinhos)
  6. Bring in players good at balls recovered

b) Think about semifinals when making your moves

How will your team likely look in the 1st leg of UCL Fantasy semifinals? You have 3 free transfers now, and 5 free transfers after the Quarterfinals. That might look like a lot, but try to use your 3 free transfers now with one eye on possible semifinal matches.

c) Have the best captaincy option for each day

As we can change our captain after Tuesday, make sure you have a backup captain for Wednesday.

d) Make sure your goalkeepers play on different days and are from different halves of the bracket

Do not pick goalkeepers from the same day – that way you cannot use your substitutions for your goalkeeper if your first goalkeeper blanks.

Similarly, if you pick goalkeepers from the same half of the bracket, they might end up playing against each other in the semifinals – blocking possible substitution, forcing you to transfer one of your goalkeepers out. Try to pick goalkeepers from different days and from different halves of the Champions League bracket as well.

Raya + Szczesny combo looks very good for Matchday 14 – they both play on different days, are from both halves of the bracket.

e) As always, try to have more players who play on Tuesday and fewer  on Wednesday

That way you could use your substitutions more effectively

f) If not sure about midfielders, bring in balls-recovered heroes

The deeper we are in the tournament, the fewer options among good attacking players we have. So, you do not need to have 5 attacking midfielders in your team now. There are just a few really good midfield options that can deliver attacking returns regularly.

Do not be afraid to bring the likes of Vitinha, Kimmich who are good at balls recovered and can deliver extra 1-2 points in any matchday – and outscore other attacking midfielders in the long run.

g) avoid -4 points hits unless necessary

2. Fixtures to target in UCL Fantasy Matchday 14

Which fixtures you should target? We always use bookies’ odds to help us determine that. Let’s look at which teams have the highest chance of winning their match in the Matchday 14 and scoring a lot of goals in that game:

  • Real Madrid vs. Arsenal – Real Madrid 58 % to win the match, 33 % to score more than 2.5 goals
  • Dortmund vs. Barcelona – Barca 53 % to win, 34 % to score more than 2.5 goals
  • Aston Villa vs. PSG – PSG 45 % to win, 23 % to score more than 2.5 goals
  • Inter Milan vs. Bayern – Bayern 38 % to win, 17 % to score more than 2.5 goals

3. Key players to own in the Quarterfinals 2nd Leg

  • Raphinha, Yamal, Lewandowski – all 3 of them given Barca attacking potential
  • Dembele, Doue/Kvaratshkeila – we could potentially double up on PSG attack’s too
  • Hakimi, Nuno Mendes or both – as part of PSG’s attack and defense
  • Pacho/Marquinhos – good at balls recovered. Well, all 4 PSG defenders are amazing source of points
  • Szczesny – amazing value
  • Kounde/Cubarsi – if you decide to double up on Barcelona’s defense, however, they are not so reliable defensively
  • Mbappe/Vinicius – Real is strong offensively as well, a lot of injuries among Arsenal defenders, Real will go for it, that is their only option
  • Kim – good at balls recovered
  • Guirassy – is unstoppable in UCL, Barcelona defense is not as reliable
  • Sommer/Bastoni – Inter will defend against Bayern, and they are excellent defensively this season
  • Rogers – main man for Villa this season

Differentials

  • Vitinha – good at balls recovered, MOTM candidate
  • Doue, Kvaratskheila
  • Saka – just back from injury, key player for Arsenal

5. Best captain for UCL Fantasy Quarterfinals 2nd leg

In UCL Fantasy Quarterfinals MD14, we can switch our captain just one time.

Tip: Do not overcomplicate things. Just captain the best player on any given day.

Tuesday captain

Raphinha is our number 1 captaincy option for Tuesday. He is the best player of this Champions League campaign and Barcelona are scoring goals for fan this season.

Backup captain for Wednesday

Our backup captain for Wednesday is Mbappe who can score in any match.

Our captaincy threshold is at 5 points.

Meaning if your captain scores 5 or more points, you will not change your captain. There are just 4 matches and few captaincy options, so it is much harder to get a captaincy return in Quarterfinals, Semifinals or finals.

It means, that if our Tuesday captain scores 5 points or more, we will keep the armband on him.

Read more about our captaincy thresholds: UCL Fantasy Captaincy Thresholds: When to change captain?

We have sub threshold at 4 points.

This means that if your player scores 4 points or more, you will not sub him off after the first day.

If he scores 3 points or less, you replace him on Wednesday with a player who is yet to play and is confirmed in a starting lineup.

With balls recovered and a clean sheet point(s) is quite common for players to score 3 points, so we always subbing of players with 3 or less points scored on Tuesday.
