As all FPL managers know, a player who accumulates five yellow cards in their team’s first 19 Premier League matches will be subject to a one-game suspension.
The keyword here is: “in their team’s first 19 Premier League matches” – it means that the FPL Gameweek when the yellow cards suspension limit increases from 5 to 10 varies based on how many matches each team played in Premier League.
Yellow card limit from 5 to 10 increases after team’s first 19 matches (not gameweeks)
So, for most teams, the yellow card limit increases from 5 to 10 after GW19 (so if a player receives his 5th yellow card in GW19, he is suspended for the following game, but if he receives his 5th yellow card in GW20, he is not suspended for the following game).
However, not all teams will be on 19 matches after GW19.
Man. City, Brentford (due to their blank gameweek in GW18) and Luton, Bournemouth (due to their abandoned match) will be on 18 matches after GW19, so yellow card limit for their players increases from 5 to 10 after GW20 (So if their players receive 5th booking in GW20, they are suspended for following fixture).
For all other teams, the yellow card limit increases after GW19.
2 game ban after 10th yellow card
A player who accumulates 10 yellow cards in their team’s first 32 Premier League matches will be subject to a two-game suspension.
And again – not for all teams, the yellow card limit will increase again after GW32. There will be blank and double gameweeks, so not all teams will be on 32 matches after GW32 (but some only on 30, 31…)
